The libraries of the University of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Historical Society (located on the UW-Madison campus) have extensive holdings on folklore in the United States and worldwide.

Advanced students have many opportunities for library, archival, and field research.

Students may also work on a range of public folklore projects in collaboration with the Center for the Study of Upper Midwestern Cultures, the Traditional and Ethnic Arts Program of the Wisconsin Arts Board, the Wisconsin Historical Society and Wisconsin Historical Museum, the Mills Music Library, and various private nonprofit organizations.
